The average dirty dish lays untouched in the sink for a day and a half, according to a new survey. This study, which looked at the kitchen habits of 2,000 Americans, found that Gen Z leaves their dirty dishes in the sink longer than any other generation. When it comes to cleanliness in the kitchen, people definitely have strong opinions or preferences!
Most people would agree that putting clean water in a dirty cup is not desirable, so why don’t we use that same mindset when we approach God? We desire for Him to fill us and use us but without confessing our sin and seeking His cleansing. Confession should be a regular, normal part of the Christian life where we ask God to restore us back to Himself so that we can walk again in purity and joy.
Psalm 51 was written by David after his affair with Bathsheba and his murder of her husband, Uriah. This prayer of repentance and request for mercy clearly shows that David was taking full ownership and responsibility for his sin. He knew that only God could wash him clean and that no amount of penance or good works could reduce the wrong he had done. Thankfully for all of us, God is in the business of forgiving sin because of Jesus’ sacrificial death on the cross.
