Dee and I have entered a new season of life. After years of raising three kids and navigating the beautiful chaos of family life, we’re now officially empty nesters. The house feels quieter these days, but in God’s kindness, we’ve also stepped into the joy of becoming grandparents. It’s a bittersweet transition in letting go of one season to embrace another. Life has a way of moving forward whether we’re ready for it or not. However, I’ve come to learn that just as God appoints seasons in nature, He also appoints seasons in our lives. In each one, He’s doing something intentional, something good.
Galatians 4:4 says, “But when the set time had fully come, God sent His Son. . . .” That verse has always struck me because it reminds me that God’s timing was not random but exact. God waited until the world was uniquely prepared to receive His Son. The Hebrews had received the Law and were longing for their promised Messiah. The Greeks had given a common language. The Romans had built roads that made travel and communication possible like never before. Everything had come together.
In the Greek, there’s a word for this: kyrios—the perfect opportunity, the moment when everything aligns and a door opens. God chose that exact moment in history to send His Son, and He still works that way in our lives today. When we trust Him, we begin to see that the seasons we step into are not accidents; they’re invitations.
Also, don’t miss this in the text where the apostle Paul writes that Jesus wasn’t just born, He was sent. The eternal Word, who was with God and was God, entered time and put on human flesh. That’s not just theology but a deeply personal act of love. It means God didn’t stay distant. He came close to you and to me. Born of a virgin and conceived by the Spirit, Jesus came with a divine mission. That kind of love, and that kind of perfect timing, reminds me that whatever season I find myself in—whether quiet or full, stretching or joyful—He sees it, He’s in it, and He’s working through it. I don’t always understand His timing, but I’ve learned to trust it. Because when the set time comes, God always shows up.
Prayer:
Dear God, thank You for sending Your Son, not randomly but in the fullness of time. Thank You that You are a God of perfect timing, and that even when we can’t see what You’re doing, we can trust that You are always working. Help us to rest in that truth today. In whatever season we find ourselves, remind us that You are present and purposeful. Give us eyes to see the open doors You place before us, and the courage to walk through them. We trust You, Lord. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
It’s hard to believe that it’s been 30 years since my dad, Robert Jobe, passed away at the age of 60. Recently when Dee and I were in Spain visiting my mom, we stood at his gravesite outside Burgos, Spain, the city where he spent 20 years of his life loving people and sharing the gospel.
I’m grateful beyond words for the legacy he left me and my siblings. He taught us to love well, to serve humbly, and to walk through life with courage and compassion. I pray I can carry forward even a portion of his life and pass on that same heart for God and people to my children. Today, I remember “Roberto” with deep gratitude.
