I once forgot to charge my phone overnight, and by midmorning the battery was completely dead. I couldn’t receive calls or texts—just a black screen. It struck me later how easily our spiritual lives can end up the same way. We move through our days without plugging into the true source of power, and suddenly we find ourselves drained and disconnected from God’s presence, lacking clarity, joy, and strength.
In Ephesians 5:15–20, Paul urges us to be wise and intentional in how we live, to “make the most of every opportunity” because the spiritual climate around us is dark and demanding. He reminds us not to be filled with the distractions of the world but instead to “be filled with the Spirit” (v.18). Just like your phone needs a daily charge, your soul needs daily time with God through prayer, worship, Scripture, and community. This isn’t just a routine—it’s a lifeline.
Staying spiritually charged means choosing what fills you. Paul paints a picture of believers singing psalms and hymns, giving thanks, and submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ (Ephesians 5:19–21). These practices keep our hearts aligned and our spirits alive. But the world constantly offers cheap substitutes—entertainment that numbs, success that exhausts, relationships that can’t satisfy, comforts that fade, and even religious routines without real connection to God. They promise to fill us, but they only leave us more depleted. When instead we intentionally fill ourselves with God’s presence, we become spiritually aware, emotionally anchored, and mission-ready.
Friend, are you running on empty? Don’t wait until you’re spiritually drained to reconnect with the Source. Start your day by plugging into God’s Word, tuning your heart through prayer, and letting the Spirit recharge your soul. Be filled also with genuine Christian fellowship and love between other believers. You were never meant to live this life on your own power.
Prayer:
Lord, fill me with Your Spirit today. Help me choose what draws me closer to You and let go of what drains me. Align my heart with Yours, so I can live wisely, love deeply, and serve faithfully. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Dee and I recently had the privilege of visiting my mom in the small town of northern Spain where she now lives. As I sat with her, I couldn’t help but reflect on the extraordinary legacy she’s woven over 87 faithful years.
Sixty years ago, she and my father began their missionary journey—first to Costa Rica, then to Chile, and eventually settling in northern Spain. Throughout all those years, my mom has embodied a cheerful spirit, unshakable faith, and radical hospitality. Her life has been a living invitation for others to experience the warmth and grace of God.
Whether in her home or simply in conversation, she radiates joy, compassion, and genuine encouragement. This recent visit was a quiet but powerful reminder of how profoundly she’s shaped not just my life but the lives of my children and now my grandchildren.
I’m deeply grateful for her and the multi-generational legacy of faith she continues to pass on. What a gift she is to our family and to so many others.
