About Moody Radio Pikeville

Moody Radio in Pikeville, Kentucky Back on Air at Full Power!

WJSO 90.1 FM broadcasting Bible-focused programs again after storm destroys tower

New years are often a time of new beginnings. New habits and commitments are often formed to make changes for the better.

At 90.1 FM WJSO, we are doing both.

As of January 18, Moody Radio Pikeville is back on the air at full power from a new location! In April of 2020, a powerful windstorm destroyed our tower and took us off the air. After carefully evaluating the wisest use of your gifts to restore the signal to full power, we determined the need to relocate to a nearby existing tower. The new tower could potentially provide even better signal coverage than our previous location.

Though we were able to return to the air in March 2021, the signal strength was greatly reduced while the new site was prepared. We expected the move could be completed in a relatively short amount of time, but multiple technical challenges extended that timeline far longer than any of us anticipated.

However, we kept praying and working to restore the full-power signal because we know how much our listeners love WJSO! That work was finally brought to a conclusion this month. The Moody Radio engineering team maneuvered up the mountain right after a snow and ice storm, moving the equipment to its new location and restoring the full-power signal once again!

We remain thankful for the legacy borne by the missionary vision of Joseph and Esther Otteson for Christian radio in Southeast Kentucky. Joseph and Esther collaborated with Moody Radio to create a radio station that passionately carries the gospel message and solid biblical teaching across the airwaves.

The first-ever Moody Radio satellite station, WJSO, began broadcasting on December 28, 1989. Nearly 33 years later, the WJSO staff’s devotion to presenting biblical truth and the hope of Jesus Christ to Pikeville and beyond remains as unshakable as ever.

That commitment has not come without a cost. Would you consider a special gift to 90.1 FM WJSO to help cover some of these significant expenses? If you are able to help, please send a gift of support to WJSO by visiting moodyradio.org/wjsogiving. You can also mail your WJSO gift to Moody Radio, 820 N. LaSalle Blvd., Chicago, IL 60610.

Once again, we appreciate your love and support of Moody Radio in Pikeville!
