Hour 1: In Our Suffering, Lord Be Near

Dawn and Steve in the Morning begin today's show with a devotional from Blackaby Ministries International about our prayer life.

Next, author Ben Locke encourages us to articulate our sorrows to God! Ben's book In Our Suffering, Lord Be Near: Prayers of Hope for the Hurting reminds us that God can handle our suffering and deliver us from these seasons of despair.

Ben is a former college soccer player and, although he doesn’t quite understand how and when it happened, he is now a writer of words. After multiple injuries and chronic illness forced him to abandon his hopes of playing professional soccer, Ben dove headfirst into writing as a means of escape, expression, and faith. This honest pursuit, along with the unwavering support of his family, also led him to come forward about the sexual abuse he endured as a collegiate athlete. His unexpected discovery of the profound grace of God, combined with his intense experiences of pain and suffering, motivate him to speak with directness, write with vulnerability, and tell the story of the broken. He recently launched an online journal called Evensong, which is a weekly writing shared with readers interested in communal prayer.

Hour 3: The Truth in True Crime

For decades, cold-case homicide detective J. Warner Wallace investigated the causes behind deaths and murders, chasing one lead after another for months as he attempted to solve the case. Today he talks with Dawn about his book The Truth in True Crime, a unique page-turner that explores the clues lying behind our human nature and fifteen life-truths gleaned from both murder investigations and ancient Biblical wisdom.

J. Warner Wallace is a Dateline featured cold-case homicide detective, popular national speaker, and best-selling author. He continues to consult on cold-case investigations while serving as a Senior Fellow at the Colson Center for Christian Worldview. He is also an Adj. Professor of Christian Apologetics at Talbot School of Theology, Biola University, and a faculty member at Summit Ministries. He holds a BA in Design (from CSULB), an MA in Architecture (from UCLA), and an MA in Theological Studies (from Gateway Seminary).
