About Moody Radio Florida

In 1977, Moody Bible Institute received an amazing gift: a Florida radio station! Before becoming a part of Moody Radio's nationwide family of stations, WKES had been privately owned since it first came on the air in 1961. By 2003, three other stations began simulcasting WKES' programming, allowing the station to reach its current potential audience of 6 million listeners from Ocala to Naples and from St. Petersburg to Orlando.

We're dedicated to serving our Florida community with encouraging Christian music, biblical teaching from nationally known pastors and leaders, and compelling talk programs that are just waiting for your call. Every Monday through Friday from 6-10:00 a.m., Karl and Crew start your day with music, hope, inspiring guests, and lots of laughter.

Weekdays and weekends on Moody Radio Florida are filled with engaging conversations, excellent biblical teaching, and uplifting music. View our program guide here so you'll never miss Dr. Mark Jobe, David Jeremiah, Chuck Swindoll, Alistair Begg, Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth, John MacArthur, or live call-in programs like In The Market with Janet Parshall, Equipped with Chris Brooks, Chris Fabry Live, Faith & Finance Live, and Building Relationships with Dr. Gary Chapman.

History of Moody Radio Florida

Moody Radio, WKES, was established in July of 1961 as Keswick Radio and was the first and only full-time radio ministry in the Tampa Bay area at that time.

In 1973, the call letters of the FM station were changed from WGNB (West Coast Good News Broadcasting) to WKES. That same year, the station began broadcasting in stereo and increased its power to 100,000 watts. In 1976, the format was expanded to broadcast 24 hours a day. One year later, in 1977, the Keswick Christian School, Bible conference grounds, and radio station were donated to Moody Bible Institute.

During the following decades, WKES proclaimed the Gospel throughout the Tampa Bay area. In 1999, Moody Radio purchased WKZM in Sarasota, which began repeating the WKES signal. In 2003, two other stations owned by Moody also began simulcasting WKES programming; they were WSOR in Naples and WHGN in Crystal River. Moody Radio became a regional station heard throughout Central and Southwest Florida.

In 2003, the onset of Internet streaming presented the incredible opportunity for world-wide expansion of the ministry. It’s now possible for the station to be heard anywhere in the world where there is Internet access.
