He’s on the Way . . . Are You Ready?

Have the desires of this world dulled your expectancy?

”Many are aware of God, but we miss the moment or fact that Jesus is coming.”

—Mark Jobe

THIS WEEK’S BOLD STEP DEVOTION

“Say to Daughter Zion, ‘See, your king comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey, and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.’”
(Matthew 21:5)

Whenever my wife and I are having company over to our home, we go into a full cleaning frenzy by dusting, wiping down floors, and fluffing cushions. Suddenly, everything that didn’t bother us yesterday feels urgent in the moment. Why? Because important people we care about are coming over. That simple fact changes our behavior and reveals our priorities.

I can’t shake the thought that many of us live with a cavalier mentality when it comes to our spiritual lives, all the while knowing, somewhere in the recesses of our minds, that Jesus is returning to reign on this earth. I believe God is trying to get your attention even as you read this. It may be through your disillusionment with life, realizing that success and accolades have left you empty; disappointment in relationships you thought would bring lasting happiness; or financial gain that failed to satisfy your deepest longings. Sadly, the desires of this world have dulled your expectancy.

Jerusalem was abuzz the week before Passover. Word had spread that Jesus had raised Lazarus from the dead, and curious crowds came from everywhere. Jesus entered Jerusalem deliberately riding on a small donkey announcing without words that the King had arrived. His quiet, unmistakable entrance fulfilled words spoken centuries earlier by the prophet Zechariah declaring that Israel’s King would come humble, riding on a donkey. And still, many missed Him. Jesus wept over the city because they were oblivious to the moment when God Himself had visited them.

So pause for a moment and ask yourself how you are responding to Him. Have you embraced Jesus as your Lord and Savior, or are you putting it off, telling yourself you’ll believe later, after you’ve had your fun, after life slows down? Friend, the time is now to open your heart to God. Don’t miss the moment because you may miss the arrival of the most important Guest of all, only to realize the home of your heart was never prepared.

Bold Step Challenge:

Ask the Lord to reveal anything in your life that has dulled your spiritual expectancy such as distractions, habits, or misplaced priorities. Take one intentional step this week to make room for the King.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, forgive me for growing familiar or complacent when I should be expectant. Prepare my heart for Your presence and for Your return. Awaken me where I’ve grown dull and help me make room in my life for You today. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Ministry Update from Mark

Women of God, I want to personally invite you to join us for Called, a one-day conference designed to strengthen and equip women who desire to follow Jesus faithfully. Scripture tells us we are “approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel” (1 Thessalonians 2:4), and that calling belongs to every believer. You may not see yourself as a ministry leader, but every woman is called to grow in faith, to walk closely with Christ, and to live out the gospel in everyday life.

On Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago or online from wherever you are, you’ll be encouraged by keynote speakers Trillia Newbell and Sandra Richter, along with practical, theologically rich workshops led by trusted ministry leaders. My prayer is that you leave reminded of the sacred trust God has placed in you and are encouraged to take your next bold step of obedience. I hope you’ll join us.
