You Have More to Give Than You Think

Stop measuring and start trusting—giving with open hands, open heart.

THIS WEEK’S BOLD STEP DEVOTION

“Ship your grain across the sea;     after many days you may receive a return.”
(Ecclesiastes 11:1)

Have you ever hesitated to do something kind because it just didn’t seem like enough? Maybe you wanted to help someone financially, but what you could give felt too small. Maybe you thought about reaching out to encourage someone but wondered if your words would really make a difference. We have a way of talking ourselves out of things before we ever do them. Someone else can do more. Someone else is more gifted. What I have won’t really matter. And before long, we’ve started believing a lie: I don’t have anything meaningful to give. In Ecclesiastes 11, Solomon encourages us to live generously and faithfully, even when we can’t predict what will come from it. Sometimes you give and never see what happens next. You pray and don’t see an immediate answer. You encourage someone and never know how desperately they needed those words. You keep showing up, serving, loving, and sowing, even when nothing seems to be changing. But God sees every act of obedience, and nothing surrendered to Him is ever wasted.

Maybe that’s exactly what you need to hear today. Stop waiting until you have more to give, until you feel more qualified, or until the circumstances are just right. There is never a wrong time to do the right thing. Give what you have. Take the step God is putting in front of you. And if you’ve been faithfully sowing without seeing a harvest, don’t quit now. God is working in ways you can’t always see. You have more to give than you think, and in the hands of God, even something small can become part of something much bigger.

Bold Step Challenge:
Look for one opportunity to live open-handedly this week. Give your time, your encouragement, your resources, or simply your attention to someone who needs it. Don’t worry about whether it feels significant. Just be faithful with what God has placed in your hands.

Prayer:
Dear God, sometimes I underestimate what You’ve placed in my hands and wonder whether what I have can really make a difference. Help me stop measuring and start trusting. Give me an open heart, open hands, and the courage to obey You even when I can’t see what You’ll do with it. And when I grow weary, remind me that nothing I give to You is ever wasted. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
