Confidence in the Unseen

”True faith makes us pursue God”

—Mark Jobe

THIS WEEK’S BOLD STEP DEVOTION

“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” (Hebrews 11:1).

When you buy a house, car, or other tangible asset, you’re given the title deed, a document that signifies ownership of a physical property. It typically contains relevant information such as a description of the property, the name of the owner, and any record of outstanding loans on it. Having a valid title is crucial in protecting you as the owner.

Just as a title deed proves ownership of a property, faith acts as evidence of the promises and assurances that God has made to us in His Word. It gives us confidence in the things we hope for, even when we can’t see them yet, such as the promise of eternal life. It’s not a vague or uncertain hope but rather, an expectation that what we long for will come to pass. As a Christian, your name is on the title!

Critics can often misrepresent faith as blind trust, implying that it’s an irrational or an uninformed decision. However, a Christian has all the “proof” they need because of these three pillars:

  1. God’s character. Your faith is rooted in the knowledge of God’s nature, promises, and faithfulness. He is unchangeable, unshakeable, and unstoppable.
  2. God’s Word: Your faith is grounded in the authority and truth of Scripture.
  3. God’s actions: Your faith is inspired by the evidence of God’s work in history and in our lives.

Being a Christian for the better part of 5 decades, I’ve had my share of challenges where my faith has provided a foundation of hope amid them. No matter what you’re facing today, whether it’s a chronic illness, debt, mental health concerns or relational conflict, faith can give you the confidence you need that a better future awaits. It’s during these times in our lives that faith can empower us to persevere, even when we don’t understand. "For we live by faith, not by sight.” 2 Corinthians 5:7.

In what areas of your life do you need to apply this concept of faith? Be challenged and encouraged when you click this link to listen to today’s message.
