THIS WEEK’S BOLD STEP DEVOTION

I love the book of Proverbs which has an interesting place in the Bible. It’s not a prophetic book nor is a book of law but rather, the book of Proverbs is a collection of wise principles to apply to one’s daily life. Every area I needed guidance in is covered in Proverbs:

Raising my children
Guarding what I say
Loving my wife
Reigning in pride
Walking with God in my everyday life
Living generously

It may surprise you that Proverbs has a lot to say about money and wealth with topics from tithing to greed to debt. The unifying theme is that as Christians, we are called to live wisely by applying God’s truths to every area of our lives, particularly our finances:

“Honor the LORD from your wealth and from the first of all your produce; so your barns will be filled with plenty and your vats will overflow with new wine.” Proverbs 3:9-10, NASB

The principle of honoring God with our wealth is not an Old Testament law that no longer applies to us. God is still looking for people in 2024 who will honor Him with the first of their produce. Take note in these verses that it’s not a matter of formal education or about how much money you make. The key lies in learning to think about money from a biblical perspective so that you can live in the way God intended for you.

Real success in life is a direct result of having a proper attitude toward God and His Word when it comes to our finances. In the end, the best way to make your money work for you is to make your money work for God.
