Counting the Cost

THIS WEEK’S BOLD STEP DEVOTION

If you’re the kind of person that loves the outdoors like me, you know how important it is to plan ahead. Whether you’re an avid hiker or just going out for a casual bike ride around town, the most effective way to prevent any mishaps is to prepare for your trip, which includes considering your monetary costs, the supplies you’ll need and what your body can physically handle.

Many don’t realize that it’s the same spiritually. Some people say ‘yes’ to the message of Jesus and start out on their faith journey without considering the costs of following Jesus. The life Jesus offers us is not an easy one and it may include suffering along the way yet, a life with Jesus is worth more than anything it could cost us.

So, what does it cost to be a Christian, according to Jesus? I believe there are three costs for every real follower of Jesus:

  1. The cost of confession
  2. The cost of commitment
  3. The cost of consecration

Briefly, each of us must humbly approach the cross of Christ and seek His forgiveness for our sin and failures. Once you’ve received His grace and mercy, the next step is to acknowledge Him publicly before others by speaking what you believe and being baptized. Then, we daily take up our cross where we willingly die to ourselves and live for Christ.

I always encourage new believers to commit Luke 10:38-39 to memory as they hold the key to a victorious life in Christ:

“Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.” Luke 10: 38-39

Ministry Update from Mark

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to fly to Korea for the 50th anniversary celebration of Billy Graham’s Crusade there that sparked a revival throughout Korea. While there, I preached in Suwon, Korea at the Wonchon Church led by Pastor Joseph Kim and his team of pastors. They have about 12 congregations that share one building and are part of the same church. It was my first time in South Korea but I felt right at home worshipping with these believers!

We’ve posted a special highlights video of my time in Korea that we think you’ll enjoy. Just go to our YouTube channel at youtube.com/@boldstepsradio to watch it!
