Learn more about Moody Radio Alabama WMFT

History

The idea for a Christian radio station for southwest Alabama began in 1982 with a group of men from Central Baptist Church in Dixons Mills, Ala.

The church began to research the feasibility of starting a new Christian radio station. After much prayer, an effort began to secure a construction permit for the new radio station. The group ran into many delays and discouragements. Finally, the Central Baptist Church voted in 1987 to give the project to Moody. Moody agreed to build the station with assets secured by Central Baptist Church and with promises from area residents to support the station. Land was cleared in March of 1988 and WMBV began broadcasting Aug. 15, 1988 with a signal strength of 62,000 watts of power.

Since 1988, Moody Radio has grown to include four stations in this region. The first of these, WMBU, is a 100,000 watt station located in Lake, Miss and started in 1997. In 2005, WMFT began broadcasting in the Tuscaloosa and Birmingham, Ala. area. Most recently, WRNF in Selma, Ala. began broadcasting in December 2007. Moody Radio is an outgrowth of WMBV's early supporters and new listeners in our growing broadcast area.
