Today on Karl and Crew, we continued our weekly theme, “I Can’t Change Because…,” by examining the excuses we make and how God calls us beyond them. Dr. Jim Coakley joined us to discuss the excuse, “I can’t change because I believe the Bible is hard or it feels dry to me,” and explain how reading the Bible only for information can keep it from changing us and how new approaches can help bring it to life. Dr. Jim Coakley is a Professor of Bible at Moody Bible Institute and a regular writer for the Today in the Word devotional. He is an Israel tour expert and a current Elder at 180 Chicago Church. He is also the author of 14 Fresh Ways to Enjoy the Bible. We then had Dr. Sandra Dalton-Smith join us to discuss the excuse “I can’t change because I feel too tired” and explain how true rest goes beyond sleep, and how different types of exhaustion can keep us from making real change. Dr. Dalton-Smith is a board-certified internal medicine physician, international speaker, and CEO of Restorasis, a workplace well-being consulting agency. She is the award-winning author of Sacred Rest: Recover Your Life, Renew Your Energy, Restore Your Sanity and host of the I Choose My Best Life podcast. She is also the creator of the 7 Types of Rest framework. You can hear the highlights of today’s program on the Karl and Crew Showcast.
