In 1953 Watson and Crick ignited the genetics revolution with their discovery of the double helix. Today a second revolution is underway thanks to the discovery of DNA’s mysterious partner in the elegant waltz of cellular life—the epigenome. The sophistication of that dance is astonishing researchers and upending the genetic paradigm. Thomas Woodward will join us to explore the latest in this unfolding revolution but goes a step further than other recent introductions to the subject.

Dr. Thomas Woodward
Dr. Thomas Woodward is a Research Professor at Trinity College of Florida, and Senior Lecturer with the C. S. Lewis Society. A Princeton graduate in history and Latin American Studies, he completed his PhD in the Rhetoric of Science at the University of South Florida. His dissertation, titled “Aroused From Dogmatic Slumber: A Rhetorical History of Intelligent Design,” positioned him to become an early historian of intelligent design. His thesis work became the basis for his first major book, Doubts about Darwin: A Rhetorical History of Intelligent Design (2003), named a Christianity Today Book of the Year in 2004. He then wrote Darwin Strikes Back: Defending the Science of Intelligent Design (2006), and also coauthored The Mysterious Epigenome: What Lies Beyond DNA (2012) with ophthalmologist James Gills. Dr. Woodward is founder and senior lecturer of the C.S. Lewis Society, a non-profit organization devoted to exploring questions related to “Science and Faith” and “Mere Christianity” (see www.apologetics.org). He is also founder/president of the non-profit “DNA and Beyond,” which produces physical models useful in teaching the digital complexity of DNA and molecular biology, including epigenetics. Tom has lectured on intelligent design in 38 countries and launched and co-hosted the podcast The Universe Next Door podcast.

Caroline Beidler, MSW is an author, speaker, and the Managing Editor of Recovery.com, a company that combines independent research with expert guidance on addiction and mental health treatment. Our mission is to help everyone find the best path to recovery through the most comprehensive, helpful network of treatment providers worldwide. She is the author of three books, Downstairs Church, You Are Not Your Trauma, and When You Love Someone in Recovery: A Hopeful Guide for Understanding Addiction with Nelson Books. Her own lived experience in addiction, mental health, and trauma recovery inspires her to help other others find recovery in all its varying forms. In four short years, she has built a global network of recovery supporters through her storytelling platform and accompanying newsletter, Circle of Chairs which reaches thousands weekly. She is a creative and visionary, founding an annual global event on International Women’s Day with different sponsoring organizations each year that brings in thousands of supporters, along with co-leading a global research initiative on family recovery with leaders around the world. Her writing is described as funny, gritty, relatable, and insightful.
