The American Church

Dawn and Steve welcome Dr. George Barna to share his latest insights on the condition of the American church.

George Barna is the Director of Research and co-founder of the Cultural Research Center at Arizona Christian University. He is also an ACU professor, focusing on worldview assessment and development, and cultural transformation. He was the founder and leader of the Barna Group, a research company that has set the standard for understanding trends in American culture. In addition, Barna serves as Senior Research Fellow at the Center for Biblical Worldview at the Family Research Council. He has taught at the undergraduate and graduate level and has pastored two churches. Barna has written more than 50 books, including numerous award-winners and New York Times bestsellers.

The Denison Forum

Dr. Mark Turman from the Denison Forum will talk with Dawn and Steve about what has caught his attention this week. 

Mark is the Executive Director of Denison Forum and Vice President of Denson Ministries. He is most notably the host of The Denison Forum Podcast. He is also the chief strategist for DF Pastors, which equips pastors and church leaders to understand and transform today's culture.

On Spiritual Warfare

Dawn and Steve welcome Lt. Col. Dave Grossman, co-author of On Spiritual Warfare, to help us prepare for the spiritual battle ahead of us. 

Lt. Col. Dave Grossman is an internationally recognized scholar, author, soldier, and speaker who is one of the world’s foremost experts in the field of human aggression and the roots of violence and violent crime. Col. Grossman is a former West Point psychology professor, Professor of Military Science, and an Army Ranger. Lt. Col. David Grossman is the author or co-author of five non-fiction and four fiction books. He has presented papers before the national conventions of the American Medical Association, the American Psychiatric Association, the American Psychological Association, and the American Academy of Pediatrics.  

He helped train mental health professionals after the Jonesboro school massacre, and he was also involved in counseling or court cases in the aftermath of the Paducah, Springfield, Littleton, Virginia Tech, and Nickel Mines, PA Amish school massacre.  In February 2018, after the Parkland, FL school massacre, Col. Grossman was called to the White House to serve on President Trump’s Round Table on Violent Video Games. He has testified before U.S. Senate and Congressional committees on three different occasions, he has testified before numerous state legislatures, and he and his research have been cited in a national address by the President of the United States.  

Today Col. Grossman is the director of Grossman On Truth, LLC (www.GrossmanOnTruth.com).  In the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, he has written and spoken extensively on the terrorist threat, with articles published in the Harvard Journal of Law and Civil Policy and many leading law enforcement journals, and he has been inducted as a “Life Diplomate” by the American Board for Certification in Homeland Security, and a “Life Member” of the American College of Forensic Examiners Institute.

He served as a pastor in Texas for 15 years until joining the Center for Professional Excellence in 2005 where he served as Clinical Director until 2020. Phil became the Clinical Director and co-owner of (what is now) River Tree in 2020 and loves his role in developing, encouraging, and equipping the staff as they walk with people through their life journeys.

Dawn and Steve welcome Mike Cosper to share his journey and book Land of My Sojourn: The Landscape of a Faith Lost and Found.

Mike is a Louisville-based writer and podcaster focused on faith and culture. He produced and hosted The Rise and Fall of Mars Hill and also created and hosted Cultivated: A podcast about faith and work. Mike has written four books and many articles. In 2001, he launched Sojourn Music and led it until 2015, producing a series of albums and original music and retuned hymns.
