Serpents & Doves

Dawn and Steve welcome Dr. James Spencer for an insightful conversation about his book Serpents and Doves: Christians, Politics, and the Art of Bearing Witness.  James is a biblical scholar, Christian leader, author, speaker and consultant.

Also this hour, Melissa Briggs will share what the Bible has to say in the Hebrew language about the Lord of Hosts, Shield, and Guardian of Israel.  Born in the USA, Melissa studied Hebrew in Jerusalem and then taught in England for over a decade. She now lives in Nashville, Tennessee with her husband and two children. She loves helping students achieve their goals of reading the Bible in the original language or learning to converse in Modern Hebrew.

Hurt and Healed by the Church

Dawn and Steve welcome Ryan George as he graciously shares his story of church trauma. Ryan offers us hope with his book Hurt and Healed by the Church: Redemption and Reconstruction After Spiritual Abuse. 

Ryan George co-leads Dude Group, a parachurch spiritual adventure community, as well as a serving incubator of volunteers at his church. During business hours, he works as a virtual marketing assistant; and his work has won more than 250 state & national awards for projects spanning 49 states and seven countries. Whether on stage or on social media, he hopes to inspire you to follow Jesus outside your comfort zone. In his books and blog posts, Ryan invites readers to explore a rich faith experience available in the midst of doubt, fear, and pressure. He looks for Jesus in places and activities that don't look like Sunday morning church services. And, because Jesus promised it would happen, Ryan has found profound moments with Jesus in all of them.

The Ascension

Steve welcomes Malcolm Hedding to explore Jesus' ascension and what He is currently doing in heaven on our behalf. Malcolm also takes questions from our listeners. 

Malcolm is an Ordained Assemblies of God minister and church planter, starting many churches throughout South Africa from 1975 – 2000. Malcolm is a tried and proven leader of local congregations, bringing to his ministry a unique understanding of local church life. He is considered a leading theologian in the Christian Zionist world today. He is an acclaimed International speaker on Israel and the Church in these crucial and challenging times.  He has published several books on Prayer, the Book of Revelation, Understanding Israel, and a foundational series on Biblical Christian Zionism that has been translated into German, Finnish, Nepalese, and Mandarin. He is a prolific writer and regularly contributes to magazines and papers of various types including the Jerusalem Post, the Christian Edition. Malcolm is also asked to speak regularly on radio shows and Christian broadcasting Networks. Malcolm holds a Bachelor's in Theology degree and two Diplomas in Theology. He is married to his high school sweetheart Cheryl. They have three children all of which are serving the Lord and involved in Christian ministry.

From Darkness to Sight

Dr. Ming Wang is in-studio to share his inspiring testimony, his love for Jesus, and how science supports our faith in Him! Dr. Wang has written about his remarkable life in the book From Darkness to Sight. The book has inspired the movie called Sight.

Dr. Wang grew up in China in the 1960’s. He played the Chinese violin (erhu) and learned to dance in order to escape a life in labor camps as many innocent children were being deported to a life of poverty during these times. He eventually made his way to America with only $50.00. He then graduated with the highest honors from Harvard Medical School and MIT.

Dr. Ming Wang, Harvard & MIT (MD, magna cum laude), PhD (laser physics), is a world-class cataract and LASIK eye surgeon, philanthropist, and community activist. He is the founding director of Wang Vision Institute and a Clinical Professor for Meharry Medical College, both in Nashville, TN. As an eye surgeon in Nashville, TN, Dr. Wang has performed over 55,000 procedures, including on over 4,000 doctors. He has published over 100 papers, including one in the world-renowned journal Nature, as well as 10 ophthalmic textbooks.

The Wang Foundation for Sight Restoration, a 501c(3) non-profit charity founded by Dr. Wang, has helped patients from over 40 states in the U.S. and 55 countries worldwide, with all sight restoration surgeries performed free of charge. As a co-founder of another 501c(3) non-profit organization, the Common Ground Network, Dr. Wang is dedicated to helping people find common ground and solutions to problems in order to achieve more success and happiness.

Dr. Wang and his wife Anle live in Nashville, TN with their three cats: Spaghetti, Tennessee, and Lily.  Dr. Wang is a champion amateur ballroom dancer and was a finalist in the world pro-am international 10-dance championships. Playing his erhu, he accompanied country music legend Dolly Parton on her album, Those Were the Days.

Neighborhoods Reimagined

Steve welcomes Chris and Elizabeth McKinney to talk about transforming our neighborhoods by sharing and showing the love of Jesus! Listen as the McKinney's takes us on a walk through their book Neighborhoods Reimagined: How the Beatitudes Inspire our Call to be Good Neighbors. 

Elizabeth is a wife and mom to four little girls. She is on staff with Cru City and serves as associate staff at her church, The Crossing, in Columbia, Missouri. She writes, speaks, and is passionate about helping people love their next-door neighbors. Elizabeth is also the co-author of Placed for a Purpose and the co-host for the Placed for a Purpose Podcast. 

Chris (MDiv, Covenant Seminary) lives with his wife Elizabeth and four daughters in Columbia, Missouri. He works for Cru City and serves as associate staff at his church, The Crossing. He writes, speaks, and is passionate about equipping churches to love their next-door neighbors. He's also the co-host for The Placed for a Purpose Podcast.

9 Worldviews

Dawn and Steve have a sobering yet important conversation with Dr. George Barna about nine worldviews based on the American Worldview Inventory 2024. 

George Barna is the Director of Research and co-founder of the Cultural Research Center at Arizona Christian University. He is also an ACU professor, focusing on worldview assessment and development, and cultural transformation. He was the founder and leader of the Barna Group, a research company that has set the standard for understanding trends in American culture. In addition, Barna serves as Senior Research Fellow at the Center for Biblical Worldview at the Family Research Council. He has taught at the undergraduate and graduate level and has pastored two churches. Barna has written more than 50 books, including numerous award-winners and New York Times bestsellers.

Karl has spent over forty years as a small church pastor. He has a ministry called Helping Small Churches Thrive. Karl also writes books, hosts The Church Lobby podcast, and speaks at conferences. His heart is to help pastors of small churches (up to 90 percent of us) find the resources to lead well, and to capitalize on the unique advantages that come with pastoring a small church – something virtually every pastor will spend at least some of their ministry years doing. He believes that big and small churches can and should work together more often, to the benefit and blessing of everyone.
