Unwrapping the Meaning Behind Gold, Frankincense & Myrrh

Author and Bible teacher, Dr. Jeremy GrinnelI, joins us to answer your Bible questions. Jeremy earned his Ph.D. in Systematic Theology from Calvin Seminary, Grand Rapids, MI, and taught theology at Cornerstone Seminary for nearly 15 years.

These are the questions Jeremy takes on with wisdom, wit, and humility.

The Magi opened their treasures and presented Jesus with gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Not your typical baby gifts. Speak about the significance of these gifts?

On the night of Christ’s birth why did God choose to reveal Himself first to the shepherds? Then, will everyone that ends up missing the rapture have a chance to be saved?

Can you explain where evil came from? Did God create it? The Bible says that Lucifer rebelled against God but how or why was it possible? So the 1st sin was not Adam, it was Lucifer, right?

Reading through Romans 12 and The Screwtape Letters, Paul speaks of being transformed by the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:2). The demon Screwtape speaks of transformation as well, making it a central to the doctrine in his father Satan’s house.

My question is this: What kind of transformation is being desired by God and then Satan? It’s clear neither camp wants us to stay as we are!

Then Shawna shares how God made a way (!) where there seemed to be no way for her daughter to be approved to travel to Australia. If you’ve ever wondered if God sees you and cares, this story will encourage you!

Last, “I will never forgive my brother unless he comes to me first.” What is it in us that keeps us from forgiving? It’s really a matter of whose kingdom we choose to belong to.

Shawna Beyer

Shawna Beyer has a way of telling stories that create personal connection— to her, to one another, and to God. She has been a homeschool mom, church planter, project lead for a consulting company, and church staff member. Though she’s been involved in ministry with her husband (Dan) in Iowa, Arizona, and now Michigan, she was born and raised in Southern California and as they say, “You can take the girl out of California . . .” She is mom to four grown kids (Bryn, Drayson, Eden, and Haven) who no longer need her but humor her anyway. Shawna is passionate about the rhythms we weave into the fabric of our lives to fall more in love with God each day. Healthy foods are her go-to, but she will abandon that whole track in a heartbeat for a homemade cinnamon roll like Grandma used to make.
