When Coach Joe Kennedy started offering a prayer on the field after each high school football game, the school district tried to shut him down, launching a seven-year legal battle that went to the Supreme Court—twice. In June 2022, he won. The new book, Average Joe is the story of an unlikely champion of religious freedom. On Tuesday's Mornings with Eric and Brigitte, Coach Joe Kennedy joins us to talk about why freedom of speech and religious liberty is worth fighting for.

Michael Rydelnik
Dr. Michael Rydelnik is vice president and Academic Dean and professor of Jewish Studies at Moody Bible Institute and the Bible teacher on Moody Radio's Open Line, answering listener Bible questions on over 200 stations nationwide across Moody Radio. The son of Holocaust survivors, he was raised in an observant Jewish home in Brooklyn, N.Y., and became a follower of Jesus the Messiah during his high school years. He is the author of several books, co-editor of The Moody Bible Commentary and contributor to many Bible teaching programs.
Joe Kennedy
Coach Joe Kennedy an eighteen-year Marine veteran, was an assistant coach for the Bremerton High School (BHS) varsity football team. Before he even coached his first game, the Marine-turned-football coach made a commitment to God that he would give thanks at the conclusion of each game for what the players had accomplished and for the opportunity to be part of their lives through football. This was met with disapproval from his school district and turned
into a lengthy court battle. On June 27, 2022, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of Coach Kennedy and his First Amendment right. Joe and his wife, Denise, are parents to four and reside currently in Pensacola.
