Congregation Ohr Chadash, a Messianic synagogue in Clearwater, will do something a little different for Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement) on Tuesday, September 18 at 7:30 p.m. They will have a traditional Kol Nidre service emphasizing the awesomeness of God and of the day, as is customary. However, they will also have an emphasis on celebrating God's provision of atonement, as was customary in ancient times and is usual among Messianic synagogues today. The service will include those aspects of observance that are fulfilled in Jesus of Nazareth. Seating is free; however donations would be appreciated. The public is invited to attend.
Then, on Wednesday September 19 at noon, Yom Kippur continues in a brief service of prayer and reflection at the synagogue. Once again seating is free, but donations will be accepted. The public is invited to attend.
Finally, the congregation will observe the close of Yom Kippur with a short Neilah service on Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m. Neilah attendance is free and open to the public. The Yom Kippur fast ends after this service, and a Break the Fast dinner will be catered. However, seating for the Break the Fast dinner is available by reservation only. To reserve a seat at Break the Fast, call 727-726-1472.
