1: Deeper Into Faith

God astonishingly invites us to partner with him to repair the world. And all we need to do to get in on this is to say one simple, profound word, “yes.” Then, Shawna’s been in a ton of bible studies, she’s wept in times of worship, she’s walked where Jesus walked in Israel, but none of these has caused Shawna to grow in her relationship with Jesus most. Next, Shawna was on Facebook yesterday and her heart broke as she read the post of a friend: “My husband doesn’t want me anymore.”

Then, sin takes us where we never thought we’d go. It’s deceitful. And sin is never more deceitful than when it tells us—“Your salvation, your forgiveness, your problems are all on you. Jesus isn’t enough. You gotta figure it out.” Next, the only way we really get to know God intimately is through wrestling. Perry shares the hard wrestling he’s been doing this year. Finally, there’s only one place to find joy. It’s simple really. But so easy to miss! Please share today’s show if you’re encouraged by it.

3: Fall Into Your Fears

The guy literally walked on the Sea of Galilee. Sure he sank and Jesus had to save him, but Peter took the risk, stepped out of the boat, put his feet on the surface of the deep, and at least for a few seconds, walked on the water. And in so doing he experienced the power and presence of Jesus in a way he never had. Today it’s a call from Jesus to step out of the boat, out of your comfort zone to experience more of Jesus in you and through you.

Joining this conversation today is Brian Aulick, Lead Pastor of Engedi Church. First Brian was bullied as a freshman in high school and it brought him to the end of himself and to the beginning of Jesus’ power. Then, his wrestling with doubts about faith in college and seminary. (Doubts make us stronger). Next, getting out of the boat, out of your comfort zone means falling into your fears and trusting Jesus to catch you.

Then, Shawna was terrified to get out of the boat, to take the risk of faith for fear of losing her family. Next, with some shaking knees Brian flew to New York City, sat down in a board room to ask the owners of a closed Kmart to give away that space to Engedi Church. Then, Brian didn’t know that in going shopping with his bride at Meijer that he would become a living parable of the Father’s heart! Finally how Jesus is freeing Brian to trust the living God to fight his battles and fix his problems. Please share today’s show!

6: Growing Deep in Jesus

We can stuff and medicate our painful emotions. And that’s really dangerous. Or we can honestly bring our emotions to God and be healed! Then, the Lord started showing Perry some deeply-rooted selfishness in his heart toward his bride, Teresa. He knew he needed to come clean and confess it very specifically with her.  The thought of being so honest was terrifying!

Next, the only physical thing in the universe that is as it should be is a person, the risen Lord Jesus. And one day what is reality for him will be reality for you and me, the whole cosmos! Then, early in life Shawna learned that if she said something honest that would be hard for someone to hear, she shouldn’t say it. To say it would be unloving. So she stuffed her emotions.

Next, even in the silence, God is working. So if you’re praying for rain and all you see is desert, prepare as if you’re going to get wet. Finally, the first prayer Perry prayed after Jesus came into his life was: “Lord don’t ever let me fall away from you!” It’s a conversation about the unshakeable confidence in God’s promise to save us forever!

Profile

Shawna Beyer

Shawna Beyer has a way of telling stories that create personal connection— to her, to one another, and to God. She has been a homeschool mom, church planter, project lead for a consulting company, and church staff member. Though she’s been involved in ministry with her husband (Dan) in Iowa, Arizona, and now Michigan, she was born and raised in Southern California and as they say, “You can take the girl out of California . . .” She is mom to four grown kids (Bryn, Drayson, Eden, and Haven) who no longer need her but humor her anyway. Shawna is passionate about the rhythms we weave into the fabric of our lives to fall more in love with God each day. Healthy foods are her go-to, but she will abandon that whole track in a heartbeat for a homemade cinnamon roll like Grandma used to make.
