The End of Me

Today on Perry and Shawna Mornings:  Jesus is the end of our striving get God’s smile and approval.  We can get off the treadmill of striving to earn God’s smile and take a leap into the pool of grace.  It’s so amazing!  And yet, Perry admits he can still fall into striving to earn God’s approval.  It’s a conversation about the subtle ways we can fall into striving for God’s approval and the only remedy for it:  Looking away from ourselves and throwing the whole weight of our trust on Jesus!

Then salvation from Jesus is an unearnable gift.  He paid a price we could never pay.  We just open our arms to receive it.  But following Jesus costs us everything. Because following Jesus is the painful yet liberating end of the “It’s-all-about-me-life.”  Finally, we must give up being a good Christian to know Jesus.  Paul said: “I consider everything a loss so that I can know Jesus.”  When Paul said this, he was talking about all the religious things in his life.  His religious resume kept him from knowing Jesus.  The only remedy for this pride in us is the gospel.
