Today on Perry and Shawna Mornings more on the amazing book of Psalms: We enter the Psalms to meet with God. As we meet with him God gives us permission to pour out every single emotion: The good, the bad, and the ugly. And as we honestly pour out our hearts to him, he doesn’t send us away. No, he draws us near and embraces us! And while we’re in his embrace he reminds us that he’s the King now and that the best is yet to come! So first we have a conversation about Psalm 23—Shawna shares a raw emotion: She feels like she doesn’t have enough (so does Perry) even though the Lord says He is all we need. We talk about why we feel this lack when He is enough.
Then in 2002 the lead singer of an iconic global rock band came across a translation of the bible that spoke the language of his heart. He was riveted by it. Especially how the Psalms were translated. And this singer reached out to the translator to express his thanks in 2002. And eventually these two guys would meet up in a cabin in the woods of Montana. The singer is Bono of U2 and the translator is Eugene Peterson who gave us the Message translation. It’s a call to be raw and honest with God and in front of a watching world that needs our authenticity to be impacted.
Next it’s back to Psalm 23 to find healing for our greatest fears. And so something from this segment to whet your appetite: Why fear the future? God’s goodness and love will pursue us all the days of our lives. Then afterward, when life is through, we’ll return to His glorious presence to be forever with him! If you trust is in Christ, 1000 years from now you will still be experiencing the goodness and mercy of God! And finally we see God’s missionary heart in many of the Psalms, especially 96. “Say among the nations, ‘The Lord reigns!’” (Psalm 96:10).
