Perry and Shawna continue to dig for treasure in the Old Testament—to find those rich promises of a coming Rescuer in those ancient mines of the Hebrew scriptures. Perry discovers that Moses striking the rock in anger and the water gushing out to quench the thirst of the Israelites was pointing to how Jesus would be struck to bring us living water. Moses act of sinful anger shows us that there are no heroes in the bible, only One, the Lord Jesus, who was pierced by our sins and for our sins so that we can drink from his river of life. Then Shawna finds Israel in exile in Babylon because of her sins wondering: Is God done with us? Maybe you’ve felt this way. Isaiah spoke promises to them about the One coming who would redeem them and give them the hope and future he had promised. And those same promises of a Redeemer shine into our places of discouragement. Finally Perry and Shawna have a conversation about how God called an ordinary, flawed man and his very dysfunctional family to bring salvation to the world. God said to Abram: Through you all the families of the earth will be blessed. He used Abram’s sinful family to bring his perfect Son into the world and he uses broken people like you and me to bring his love tothe world.
