Placemaker / God, Greed, and the Prosperity Gospel

This morning Andrew and Mike chatted with comedian Chonda Pierce, pastor Brandon Clements, plus they shared some Kurt and Kate Mornings highlights with guests Christie Purifoy and Costi Hinn.

Chonda Pierce: Still Laughing Tour is coming to Fort Myers on Friday, November 15.

Brandon Clements is co-author of The Simplest Way to Change the World: Biblical Hospitality as a Way of Life from Moody Publishers.

Placemaker: Cultivating Places of Comfort, Beauty, and Peace

Your home is a legacy in the making! There's a cool book out called Placemaker. The author is Christie Purifoy and she joins us this morning. "What is placemaking?" she writes. "It is deliberately sending your roots deep into a place, like a tree." She uses the overarching metaphor of trees to root readers in the reality of a physical place. Having roots is a good thing! But how does that square with the idea of "ready to stay willing to go"?

God, Greed, and the Prosperity Gospel

Recently controversial televangelist Benny Hinn said he has renounced the prosperity gospel saying "the Holy Ghost is just fed up with it."

The prosperity gospel teaches, among other things, that believers have a right to the blessings of health and wealth, and they can obtain these blessings through positive confessions of faith and the "sowing of seeds" through the faithful payments of tithes and offerings.

Hinn's outright rejection of the prosperity gospel comes just two months after his nephew, Costi Hinn, revealed in his new book, God, Greed, and the (Prosperity) Gospel: How Truth Overwhelms a Life Built on Lies, how his family exploited millions around the world with the prosperity gospel and often traded so-called miracles for money.
