It's a sobering statistic that 40% of caregivers die before the one to whom they are giving care. The stress for those who care for their husband, wife, or parents with Alzheimer's or dementia can be overwhelming with little time left to care for oneself. Marcy Konkousohn has personal experience with this journey and she began an Alzheimer's Caregiving Support group to both educate and provide support for caregivers. Marcy will be sharing about her group that meets at Edgewood Baptist Church and will offer a challenge to area churches to consider beginning a support group for those caring for family members with dementia or Alzheimer's.
Every Tuesday we sit under the teaching of a local ministry leader or pastor and this week we will hear from Pastor Doug Rowland of Rock Island Bible Church. Pastor Doug will take us to Psalm 55 to learn what faith sounds like in times of pain. The reality of seasons of pain and lament are a part of the human experience and so how do we walk through this reality with faith? Pastor Doug Rowland will give us three prayers to help give voice to your season of lament.
As the culture drifts away from the anchor of truth, how do we, as believers stand firm unshaken and unashamed? Local Church Apologetic's Rick McGough and Edgewood Baptist Church Discipleship Pastor Kyle Parks join Ken and Deb to talk about an equipping conference for you this Saturday, September 16, at Edgewood Baptist Church. Rick McGough will present his Faith and Reason Seminar, free of charge, to our community to instruct us on how to be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope you have. Listen in for a conversation on the importance of apologetics along with an invitation to this free equipping seminar.
Doug Rowland is the lead Pastor of Rock Island Bible Church. Doug and his wife Kristin have been married for 16 years and even since their dating years have been serving in ministry together. They moved to Rock Island to live out their calling as sent people to the West End neighborhood, helping to establish Rock Island Bible Church in 2018. Doug received his B.A. in History and Comparatives Religious Studies at Illinois Wesleyan University in 2006 and a Masters degree (MDiv) from Denver Seminary in 2009.
Rick McGough is a pastor, author and speaker. While he was serving as lead pastor of New Life Fellowship in Moline, IL, Rick had a growing burden for the need for apologetics within the church. Recently, he and his wife Val left the pastorate after 34 years to begin the new ministry of Local Church Apologetics. Rick speaks on a variety of topics including faith & reason, creation vs. evolution and contemporary issues facing the church but his real passion is helping pastors incorporate apologetics into their church ministry.
