Kids are heading back to school in a time when mass shootings are not uncommon, violence in school is not unusual, there is confusion when it comes to gender, who we are and how we fit in, and bullying is commonplace. So how do parents prepare their children for their world and help them to be steadfast and secure in Christ through it all? We’ll talk about it Friday morning with Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Focus on the Family’s Director of Parenting and Youth Danny Huerta. Danny has some insight as to how listening is the key in dealing with the anxiety and fears are kids may be experiencing.
Friday we continue our discussion on the church’s response to emotional abuse with Dr. David Hawkins. Dr. Hawkins says that more and more churches are reaching out to him for help in dealing with couples where emotional violence is threatening the marriage. The church has long realized the devastation from physical violence, but the research is out showing that emotional distress in marriage has long term spiritual and physical consequences. We’ll hear how these patterns need to be addressed with informed programs with good support and treatment.
