Church United: Shared Table Conversation with Dr. Eric Mason
Millions of people in America have a criminal record. Many are ready to own their mistakes, learn from the past, and become who they’re meant to be. But it’s harder than it should be. At every step of the journey—by unjust laws and daily hurdles—they’re reminded of who they were. On Friday’s Mornings with Eric and Brigitte, Sammy Perez, Prison Fellowship’s Grassroots Director joins us to talk about the organization’s Second Chance® Month, which began in 2017, and is a nationwide effort to raise awareness about these barriers and unlock brighter futures for people with a criminal record.
For the past ten years Pastor David Rosa has been engaged in urban missions throughout the South Florida area —including work with illegal immigrant children & youth, Miami’s homeless population, people wrestling with addiction, at-risk youth, and more. After completing a dual church planting residency with Spanish River Church in Boca Raton, FL and Epiphany Camden in New Jersey pastor D launched Cruciform Church. Cruciform is a justice oriented, gospel centered, missional church seeking to “see the streets restored with wisdom, unity, and justice as our neighbors embrace and grow in worship of Christ.”
Sammy Perez leads Prison Fellowship’s grassroots program to build and mobilize a network of Christians who are passionate about justice that restores. After rediscovering faith in Christ, Perez, who has spent time in prison, overcame his past and began to serve others impacted by crime and incarceration, including volunteering as a Prison Fellowship Justice Ambassador before joining as a full-time employee. Perez graduated from Liberty University with a degree in psychology, specializing in addiction and recovery, and is currently completing graduate studies in clinical mental health counseling. He enjoys life with his lovely wife and four children.
