Dr. Theon Hill, Associate Professor of Communications at Wheaton College, joins Mornings with Eric and Brigitte on Wednesday to discuss the importance of Juneteenth to the Church especially in light of the recent debates by the Southern Baptist Convention and other Christian organizations on race, class, and gender. Dr. Hill shares that "In this moment, when the U.S. church faces internal debates over cultural approval versus theological orthodoxy, Juneteenth serves as a powerful reminder of the tragedies that occur when we place economic, social and culture interests above morality,” he said.
Pastor Robey Barnes and his wife Rebekah of City Rev Church in Pembroke Pines will join Mornings with Eric and Brigitte on Wednesday to continue their discussion on healthy conflict in marriage. It's inevitable--if you're married, you will experience conflict. But it's how you deal with the conflict that will determine whether it will strengthen or weaken your marriage. Pastor Robey and his wife Rebekah will share how God desires to shape and sharpen us through marital conflict.
Dr. Theon Hill's research explores the relationship between rhetoric and social change related to race, culture and American politics. Specifically, he examines the role of radical rhetoric as a crucial form of civic engagement and public advocacy. His previous work on rhetoric and social change in political, social movement, and religious contexts has appeared in edited collections and scholarly journals.
Robey Barnes has served as Lead Pastor of City Rev Church since 2006, and it has flourished under his leadership and teaching. Robey leads the staff and elder teams as they seek to transform South Florida in this generation. His primary roles are as the lead teacher and vision caster for the church. He holds degrees from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Taylor University, and a Doctorate in Ministry degree from Knox Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Rebekah, have three beautiful children, Scarlett, Nehemiah, and Hope.
