"He must increase, but I must decrease.” (John 3:30)
Maybe one of the biggest challenges we can face is when the Lord moves us from the “lead” role to that of a “supporting player.”
The conductor of a famous symphony orchestra was once asked this question:
“What’s the hardest instrument to play?”
His answer was classic:
“Second violin. We can get plenty of first violinists. But to get someone to play second violin with enthusiasm.. that’s a problem!”
And so it is.
But our greatest opportunity to serve Christ and make Him famous may be by playing “second fiddle”.
To Him.. of course.
To others.. quite possibly.
When we’re pulled out of the starting lineup we automatically flinch.
Surely we’re not being sent “down” to the minor leagues!
Or worse yet.. to ride the bench!
We’re just hitting our stride here!
“This can’t be God’s plan” we say.. or perhaps just think to ourselves.
BUT... What if it is?
Has God ever asked you to “decrease” so that He may “increase”?
Perhaps for a season?
