Have you ever washed someone's feet?
Literally probably not.
Metaphorically.. you bet!
In John 13 we see Jesus humbling Himself and washing the dirty feet of His disciples at the Last Supper:
"So when He had washed their feet, and taken His garments and reclined at the table again, He said to them, "Do you know what I have done to you? "You call Me Teacher and Lord; and you are right, for so I am. "If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet. "For I gave you an example that you also should do as I did to you. "Truly, truly, I say to you, a slave is not greater than his master, nor is one who is sent greater than the one who sent him. "If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them."
(John 13:12-17) NASB
What an amazing display of kindness and humility.
Of caring and service.
An example we as His followers are to follow.
In our culture we may not wash feet like this.. but there are other ways we can live this out..don't you think?
From a word of encouragement to a weary soul..to forgiving a friend to save a friendship..to helping someone who needs a place to stay..food to eat...a lawn to be mowed.. the opportunities are endless if we have eyes to see!
And don't forget Jesus said we'll be "blessed" if we do them!
What are some ways we can "wash feet" today?
Have you experienced this as you have done this?
Also feel free to share how someone came along and "washed" YOUR feet.
How did it make you feel?
What impact did it have in your life?
Foot washing will never go out of style because we'll never run out of "dirty feet"!
