Witnessing to a World Full of Fear

Today on Karl and Crew Mornings, we discussed our security in Christ. Recently, we're hearing so much about the Coronavirus, and it's causing fear for many. How do we, as Christians overcome fear, and how do we witness in the midst of fear.  Joining us today was counselor and pastor, Paul Mavrogeorge. Take a listen to the Karl and Crew Showcast to hear some of the best moments from today.   Also, Karl offered a blog on fear:

The global outbreak of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) is unnerving. There's much speculation on the part of experts, and many questions remain entirely unanswered. Store shelves are being emptied of anything that might stave off the virus. There will be health bulletins and many rumors in the coming days, but in these cloudy days, are a bright silver lining.

  • Remember the sovereignty and love of God. Our lives are entirely secure in him. We have a savior who has brought us to life, and we will never die if we've surrendered our life to Christ. And this body we now have is just a tarp compared to what we get for eternity. "For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands." (II Corinthians 5:1) We will always battle sickness, and one day we will all leave these "tents" behind, but the future is brilliantly bright. We've been brought out of sin's darkness by God's Grace and into sweet friendship with the one who saves our soul. Rejoice!

  • God's kids have a huge advantage. God sees our everyday lives and is at work in the middle of those events to redeem what even seems unredeemable. Let this verse anchor you. "And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose." (Romans 8:28) God promises that even the most challenging times of sickness, trials, threats, and those fearful events we face will be turned around into something good. Watch God move!

  • Realign your life with what matters most. These moments of fragility and uncertainty allow us to focus our energies on what's vital and lasting. Moses experienced every human emotion in spades – victories, defeats, and fearful events. But this is what he concluded. "Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom." (Psalm 90:12) Don't let this time slip by without allowing God to quiet your heart and reconnect with God's call on your life. Let Covid-19 cause you to reconsider what matters most. Make this your time to get your life realigned!

Any good pastor would throw in the practical advice, so here's what I know: Wash your hands regularly for 20 seconds at a time - Don't touch your face, lips, or eyes - Disinfect work surfaces - Use your knuckles to punch elevator buttons. But in all things, be alert for your opportunity to help others and radiate while you do it. "In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven." (Matthew 5:16)
