Teens, Suicide & Hope

Suicide rates for those ages 10 to 24 have more than doubled from 2007 to 2017, according to a new report from the Centers for Disease Control. It is the leading cause of death for that age bracket.  What leads to these tragedies and how can parents be vigilant for their own children’s mental health?  Clinical psychologist Dr. Deb Gorton joins Chris to examine these questions and offer insight and hope for those who struggle and those who are left behind.

Dr. Deb Gorton

Dr. Gorton serves as the Director of Moody Theological Seminary’s Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program as well as Moody's Counseling Center.  She is also the founding president of Siv Consultation.
She earned both her MA in Psychology and her PhD in Clinical Psychology from Fuller Graduate School of Psychology in Pasadena, CA.  Additionally, she holds an MA in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary.

Chris Brooks

Chris Brooks is the Senior Pastor of Woodside Bible Church, a multisite congregation across the metro-Detroit area.    Chris served for 20 years as the Senior Pastor of Evangel Ministries, a thriving 1600-member church in the heart of Detroit. He also served as the campus dean of Moody Theological Seminary in Plymouth, Michigan. A popular Detroit radio host since 2005, Chris is the author of Kingdom Dreaming and Urban Apologetics. He graduated from Michigan State University with a BA in Finance, completed his MA in Christian Apologetics at Biola University, and graduated from the Oxford Centre for Christian Apologetics. He is currently pursuing a DMin degree at Asbury Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Yodit, are the proud parents of 6 children, Christopher, Zewditu, Cameron, Judah, Sophia, and Christyana.
