Urban ministry is often considered one of the most difficult but God is on the move! Great things that happen when the Church steps out and into the lives of people in Urban America.
Dr. Virginia Ward is the Director of Leadership and Mentored Ministries at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, Boston Campus, where she teaches classes in urban youth ministry and leadership. Dr. Ward comes with extensive experience as an urban pastor, ministry organizer, and youth ministry expert. After an initial study in Management at Northeastern University and courses at Harvard Extension School, Dr. Ward pursued education in ministry, earning her Diploma in Urban Ministries, Master of Arts in Youth Ministry, and Doctor of Ministry in Emerging Generations, all at Gordon-Conwell. A third-generation minster, Rev. Ward is an Associate Pastor at Abundant Life Church where her husband Bishop Larry Ward is the Senior Pastor.
She lives in Boston with her husband and two adult sons.
Chris Brooks is the Teaching Pastor of Woodside Bible Church, a multisite congregation across the metro-Detroit area. Chris served for 20 years as the Senior Pastor of Evangel Ministries, a thriving 1600-member church in the heart of Detroit. He also served as the campus dean of Moody Theological Seminary in Plymouth, Michigan. A popular Detroit radio host since 2005, Chris is author of Kingdom Dreaming and Urban Apologetics. He graduated from Michigan State University with a BA in Finance, completed his MA in Christian Apologetics at Biola University, and graduated from the Oxford Centre for Christian Apologetics. He is currently pursuing a DMin degree at Asbury Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Yodit, are the proud parents of Christopher, Zewditu, Cameron, Judah, and Sophia.
