When he heard his father was gone, a six-year-old boy asked a penetrating question: “Who’s going to take my Dad’s place?” Kids may be resilient but they all need a father. Huge holes remain in their lives if no one steps up. Chris Brooks will be talking about the needs of fatherless families, God’s response to them, and how the Church should respond as well. Dawn VanderWerf is a writer, speaker and change agent who loves to help single parents discover their purpose and place in God’s story. A single mom herself for 6 years, Dawn created Hope Notes, the first online daily devotionals for single parents, founded Single Parent Missions and co-authored The Daddy Gap. Combining her passion for encouraging single parents and equipping the Church to respond to the growing population of one-parent families, she also helped launch the Midwest Single Parenting Summit in 2017.
Dawn is recently remarried and lives in Michigan with her husband Steve and a house full of teenagers
Matt Haviland
Matt Haviland founded A Father’s Walk in April of 2008. Having been a single father for over 9 years, Matt understands the struggles single dads encounter on a daily basis. Matt grew up in a single parent household himself, living with his mom. When his own daughter was about 8 months old, Matt made the one decision that would change his life (and his daughter’s) forever when he completely surrendered his life to Jesus Christ.
The following year, God gave him the vision for A Father’s Walk. Since then, the ministry has continued to grow and flourish. Matt is fully committed to his relationship with Jesus, his daughter, and his mission to help change generations by leading single dads in Christ.

Chris Brooks
Chris Brooks is the senior pastor of Woodside Bible Church, a multisite congregation across the Detroit metropolitan area. Chris served for 20 years as the senior pastor of Evangel Ministries, a thriving 1,600-member church in the heart of Detroit. He also served as the campus dean of Moody Theological Seminary in Plymouth, Michigan. A popular Detroit radio host since 2005, Chris is the author of Kingdom Dreaming and Urban Apologetics. He graduated from Michigan State University with a BA in Finance, completed his MA in Christian Apologetics at Biola University, and graduated from the Oxford Centre for Christian Apologetics. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Ministry degree at Asbury Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Yodit, are the proud parents of six children: Christopher, Zewditu, Cameron, Judah, Sophia, and Christyana.
