Loss, Grief and Purpose

Losses come to every life and we often struggle to make sense of these heart-wrenching times.  Loss came suddenly for Dr. Jerry Sittser when he lost 3 generations of his family in a tragic accident. He joins Chris to explore the depths of sorrows like divorce, illness and death.  By entering into these profound losses, Dr. Sittser will help us find our way to a deeper purpose and new beginnings.

Jerry Sittser

Jerry Sittser (Ph.D. University of Chicago) as served as a professor at Whitworth University for nearly 30 years.  He specializes in the History of Christianity, Christian Spirituality, and Religion in American Public Life. Currently he is serving half-time as professor of theology and half-time as senior fellow and resident researcher in the Office of Church Engagement.  He has written eight books, among them A Grace Disguised, A Grace Revealed, The Will of God as a Way of Life, and Water from a Deep Well.  
Married to Patricia since 2010, he has three married children, two married step-children, and four grandchildren.

Chris Brooks

Chris Brooks is the Teaching Pastor of Woodside Bible Church, a multisite congregation across the metro-Detroit area.    Chris served for 20 years as the Senior Pastor of Evangel Ministries, a thriving 1600-member church in the heart of Detroit. He also served as the campus dean of Moody Theological Seminary in Plymouth, Michigan. A popular Detroit radio host since 2005, Chris is author of Kingdom Dreaming and Urban Apologetics. He graduated from Michigan State University with a BA in Finance, completed his MA in Christian Apologetics at Biola University, and graduated from the Oxford Centre for Christian Apologetics. He is currently pursuing a DMin degree at Asbury Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Yodit, are the proud parents of Christopher, Zewditu, Cameron, Judah, and Sophia.
