Meet Moody Radio's Newest Host

Longtime radio talk show host Dr. Bill Maier is adding his voice of encouragement to Moody Radio’s internet station, the Praise & Worship Channel, as well as helping you focus on God on the Moody Radio network.

"I am excited about serving on the air at Moody and connecting with listeners,” says Bill, who will be on the Moody Radio network starting late August from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. CT. Bill will not lose sleep because he pre-records the show from his home. The programming, which features uplifting music and spiritual commentary, replaces Kurt Goff Live.

Because friends like you support Moody Radio, more people around the world can hear Bill present life-changing Christian content.

“One thing I do is offer spiritual encouragement and devotional thoughts, often tying those devotional comments to the music, because it is so chock full of Scripture,” says Bill, who has a wife and three children and also serves on the children’s ministry staff at his church in Roseville, Minnesota.

In addition to sharing mini-devotionals during the program, Bill often provides background on the Christian artists featured. “I also enjoy sharing ‘good news’ stories from around the country, especially when they involve followers of Christ who are making a difference in their community,” he adds.

Bill also gets encouraging emails and prayer requests, which he often reads on the air. “I love hearing from our listeners and visualizing that this person is listening in Malaysia or Scotland,” he says.

Meet Dr. Bill Maier

Bill didn’t hear the gospel clearly until age 16 when some born-again Christians from his high school invited him to a choir retreat. “I believed in God but saw Him as a distant, powerful figure. I had never heard about grace or the need for repentance,” Bill says. “When the choir director preached on Revelation chapter three where John says, ‘If you’re neither hot nor cold, but lukewarm, I’ll spew you out of my mouth,’ I realized that was me! I wasn’t cold to God, but I didn’t have the hot faith in Christ that He was calling me to.” That night Bill wept and repented, receiving Jesus as his Savior.

After college Bill worked in secular radio, eventually becoming a morning personality on a pop/rock station in Los Angeles. “But as a Christian, I became frustrated with the lack of meaning and purpose,” he says. “Playing Madonna records and doing trivia contests started feeling very empty.”

Bill went back to school for his master’s and doctorate in clinical psychology and worked with low-income kids in a Los Angeles community mental health clinic. Then in 2002 God opened the door for Bill to work with Dr. James Dobson at Focus on the Family. He filled in for him on the daily broadcast and helped revamp Focus’s Weekend Magazine program. With a background in theater, he often performed as a guest voice actor on their children’s radio program, Adventures in Odyssey, playing parts like Paul Revere and Pontius Pilate. He then worked for a Christian music station in Houston, Texas, until he was asked to host a morning show for the Faith Radio Network in the Twin Cities.

Several months ago Dan Craig, Moody Radio’s manager of programming, called Bill, inviting him to join Moody Radio’s Praise and Worship station. Bill was thrilled. “I’ve known of Moody since my days at Focus and always respected their commitment to biblical truth and spreading the gospel and doing it in a very winsome, creative way, so it just seemed like a wonderful opportunity.”
