Galena, Illinois

Moody Radio signed on the Galena Satellator on Oct. 23, 1996, and serves Jo Daviess County, home of breath-taking landscapes and a storied history. The city is a popular tourist destination known for its history, historical architecture, and ski and golf resorts. Galena was the residence of nine Civil War generals including former president Ulysses S. Grant, entertainers, and politicians. The local Galena Bible Church has been a primary sponsor of Moody Radio's Satellator on 90.1 FM in Galena.

Galena was a boom-town in the mid-1800s, with over 80% of the nation's lead mining production passing through Galena by 1845. The largest steamboat line on the Mississippi River made Galena a major trading center for settlers moving into Wisconsin, Iowa, and Minnesota. The Country Fair in Grant Park has helped guide the change to a tourist town. Today many homes from that era survive in refurbished form as museums, bed and breakfast tourist stops, honeymoon escapes and romantic retreats. During winter, the area's rugged landscape is perfect for downhill and cross-country skiing.
